Christine Beatty is a proud graduate of Howard University and Wayne State University, where she received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, respectively. She is a native of Detroit and became Chief of Staff for the City of Detroit under Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick in 2002. In 2004, Beatty was named one of Michigan’s Most Influential Women by Crain’s Detroit Business.

In January 2008, her life changed forever when text messages between her and Mayor Kilpatrick were published in a local newspaper, revealing an affair and prompting her immediate resignation. After a year of media coverage and charges were filed, Beatty plead guilty to two obstruction of justice charges for denying the affair in court and served a three-month sentence.

Since 2009, Beatty has turned her entire focus to her platform of Reclaim, Restore, Recover, focused on lessons learned in losing one’s self, recovering from self-destructive choices, and forgiveness. Beatty authored an article for the 2013 issue of Essence entitled “A Real Life Scandal”. The mother of two shares her journey on Centric Television’s hit show From The Bottom Up, a docuseries following the journey of high profile women striving to rebuild their lives after falling from grace.
