Ben-Cardin
Born and raised in Baltimore, Ben Cardin is a national leader on health care, civil rights, infrastructure improvement and the environment and represents the people of Maryland in the U.S. Senate. He was a member of the House of Representatives prior to becoming Senator for his state.
Senator Cardin currently serves as Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (SFRC). He is a senior member of the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee (EPW) and Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee (SBC). He also serves on the Senate Finance Committee (SFC). The interconnectivity of these assignments has allowed Senator Cardin to promote policies, legislation and programs that help grow our state and national economies and create job opportunities; support small businesses; protect our middle class and most vulnerable citizens; maintain clean air and water; expand opportunities for public transit and energy independence; and promote transparency, good governance and the protection of universal human rights.
Senator Cardin believes in everyone’s right to a safe and healthy environment, regardless of their background. He is a champion of protecting our clean air and water and cleaning up toxic waste in our communities. A 1967 graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law (1st in his class), he earned his B.A. degree in 1964 from the University of Pittsburgh (cum laude).
